Do you ever hear a song and just instantly think, “That is SOOOOO cool”? That’s exactly how I felt about “Do I Wanna Know?” by The Arctic Monkeys, the first time I heard it, and the feeling still remains to this day. I just think this song is SO cool. I love the riff. I love the lyrics. I love everything about this song. I think I love this song so much that I would probably include it in my top 20 songs of all time.
I’m not quite convinced that I made the right font choice on this graphic… honestly, I made it in a bit of a hurry, after having a bit of red wine with dinner. I might have to come back to it at some point. My font choice for this one was Bellerose and Rochester. Fonts that I normally really enjoy, but I don’t think it conveys the coolness of this song!
Either way – hope you enjoy the tune! Come back for more lyrical inspirations next week!
Today marks two months of Lyrical Inspiration Tuesdays posts here at Superflash Creative! Yay! I’ve loved this project so far. It’s a great way for me to get a little bit creative in a quick and easy way… and to explore some new tunes! I was feeling a little uninspired to write this blog, so I posted a status on Facebook asking for my friends’ current and all time favourite songs. 30+ replies later, I have a playlist of all kinds of new tunes, including the one below:
As I began listening to the songs that my friends suggested, Twin Shadow‘s song, “To The Top” instantly jumped out at me. I love the 80’s ballad throwback sound of this song. It sounds like it should be in St. Elmo’s Fire, or a Chicago b-side’s album or something, and I love it! I’ve listened to it a few times and it definitely makes me smile! Have you made any musical discoveries that you’re excited about lately?
Fonts used in this graphic are Little Trouble Girl and KG Skinny Latte – which I actually suggested as a font pairing in my Favourite Fonts for Fall post a couple of months ago. I think they look pretty cool together!
If anyone’s curious about the playlist I made with all the new music recommendations, you can find it here at Spotify! I’m looking forward to adding more songs to this list as more suggestions roll in!
Welcome back to Lyrical Inspiration Tuesdays at Superflash Creative!
Ever have one of those songs that summarizes a particular time in your life? Currently, that song for me is Daft Punk‘s “Get Lucky.” When you work in the TV industry on a show with the same coworkers for weeks/months at a time, it always seems to happen that a song will summarize that time. On Battle of the Blades, it was “Three” by Britney Spears. We listened to it in the production office every day. This time around, it’s definitely Get Lucky. We heard the song on one of our bar outings, first week in town, and now every morning we have a Daft Punk dance party to start our day!
Isn’t this song just so super catchy?!
Curious about fonts? This time around, I used Bauhaus 93 and Beauty School Drop Out.

We’re going wayyyyy back for today’s Lyrical Inspirations Tuesdays… mostly just because I was sitting in the Jumping Bean coffee shop here in Gander, NL, and this came on the radio. This was a great little song in the 90s, and I think it still stands up to date. Did you know that this song is actually about a baby being born, and not being kicked out of a bar? Haha.

In today’s installation of Lyrical Inspiration Tuesdays… I bring to you Maroon 5. Maroon 5 is one of those bands that I got *super* into when Songs About Jane came out, and then I kind of lost touch with them aside from the single – but I’m completely loving them again with the release of their new album, V. Maps was their first single released on this album, and I think it’s one of the catchiest songs of 2014.
Also – I am totally loving the font and colour combo for today! If you’re curious, the fonts I used are Ostrich Sans Inline and CK Carolyn.

This is my birthday week, so for this week’s Lyrical Inspiration post, I decided to showcase my absolute favourite musician – Royal Wood. I can’t even put into words how much Royal Wood’s music means to me – I haven’t identified with music so deeply since my teenage obsession with Our Lady Peace. His newest cd, The Burning Bright, is one of the best albums I’ve heard in my entire life – you can read my review of it over on the Singles and Pairs blog to see why I feel so strongly about it. But if you don’t feel like reading a full review… here’s one of my favourite songs from the album:
“White Flag” is one of the stand-out, rocking tracks from the album, and it is amazing to see live. I’ve seen Royal in both full band and acoustic performances – each have their own unique flair. I highly recommend seeing him live if you ever get the opportunity!

This is the third installation of my Lyrical Inspiration Tuesdays – a weekly feature where I’ll feature one of my favourite songs and present a quote and a video from it for you to enjoy. Got a suggestion for a future song? Email it to me!
This week – it’s “The Girl” by City and Colour.
City and Colour is the stage name of solo artist Dallas Green, who happens to be my friend Amber’s favourite musician. While I can’t say I share her complete love of City and Colour, this is the one song that I constantly get in my head. City and Colour recently announced an upcoming collaboration with Pink, that will be released under the name You + Me, and it sounds really intriguing!
Anyway… without further ado, here’s The Girl:
And, as an added bonus, here’s an acoustic cover version of this song by Sarah Blackwood of Walk Off The Earth:
